DRAFT. This page is a draft and a lawyer has not reviewed it yet.

It explains how we plan to work. It may change before we take on our first client.

Privacy policy

Last updated October 10, 2026. Version draft-1.

We collect only what we need, and we never sell your information.

The short version

  • We collect only what we need to build and run websites for small businesses.
  • We never sell your information.
  • We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
  • You can ask us to see, fix, or delete what we have about you.

Who we are

Up the Road Web is owned by Tyler Jackson, based in Union County, SC.

This policy covers our website, our previews, and our services for clients.

Businesses we have not worked with yet

To find businesses that may want a website, we use public business listings from Overture Maps Foundation, an open map data project. A listing has things like a business name, kind of business, address, phone number, and website. Our data credits page lists where that data comes from.

We only mail a postcard to an address the business itself published: on its business Facebook page (as shared through Overture), on its own website, or on another page the business runs, checked by a person. We may look at a few pages of your own business website to find that address or to see if you already have a good site.

We do not use Google Maps listings to build our mailing list. We do not buy lists of people, use government license lists, or copy information from Facebook with automated tools.

If your preview shows your Google rating, that box is loaded from Google each time the page is opened. We do not keep it.

Asking us to leave you alone

Call, email, or write to us and say "remove me." We delete your preview and stop all mail to you.

We keep a short do-not-contact note (your business name, phone number, and address) so we never contact you again, even if your business shows up twice in the listings. We keep that note for good, because it is what keeps you off our list.

People who visit our site or a preview

Our site does not use advertising cookies or tracking ads. Our web host, Cloudflare, keeps standard records of visits (like the time and the address of the device) to keep the site running and safe.

When someone scans the code on a postcard or opens a preview, we count it, so we know whether our mail is working. We do not try to find out who you are from that.

Text messages

We do not send or answer texts yet. Before we ever do, this page will say how texts work.

Clients

When you sign up, we keep what we need to serve you:

  • Your name, phone number, email, and business details.
  • Your payment details, which stay with our payment company, Stripe. We never see your full card number.
  • Your domain name owner details, which the domain company must have by law and industry rules.
  • For phone and text features: your legal business name, address, and tax ID, which phone companies require for registration. We pass these only to our phone company, Twilio, for that registration. Your tax ID is kept locked (encrypted) and never shown in full.
  • The words, photos, and facts you give us for your site, and simple counts of visits to your site for your monthly report.

Your customers and callers

When phone and text features are offered, we handle the phone numbers of people who call or text a client, or who ask a client for a review link. We use them only to send the one text they expect and to keep a record of their choice. After that text is sent, we keep the number only as a scrambled code we cannot read back, so we can honor a STOP and the review limits. We never sell these numbers or use them for anything else.

Facebook page data

This feature is not offered yet. When it is, a client can choose to connect their business Facebook page through Facebook's own login. We then read that page's posts and photos only to show them on the client's website. We do not use them for anything else, and we never sell them.

You can disconnect any time in your Facebook settings or by emailing us. When you do, we take the synced posts and photos off your site and delete our copies within 30 days.

To ask us to delete your Facebook page data at any time, email us "delete my Facebook data" and we will do it within 30 days and confirm when it is done.

Google business listing data

When Google listing help is offered, information we read from your Google listing is used only for your service. It is loaded fresh when needed and not kept by us for more than 30 days.

Companies that help us

We share information only with companies that help us run our service, and only what each one needs. None of them may use it for their own marketing.

  • Cloudflare: hosting our site, previews, and client sites.
  • Stripe: taking payments.
  • Twilio: phone calls and text messages.
  • Lob: printing and mailing postcards.
  • Resend: sending email.
  • Our domain company: registering domain names in your name.
  • Anthropic: writing tools we use to draft preview wording and to read change requests you send us.
  • Google and Meta (Facebook): only for the listing and page features above, and only when you turn them on.

The law

We may share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone from harm or fraud.

How long we keep things

We keep information only as long as we need it to serve you, keep honest records, or follow the law. Do-not-contact notes and text opt-out records are kept for good, so we never contact you after you asked us not to.

Your choices

You can ask us what we have about you, ask us to fix it, or ask us to delete it. We answer within 30 days. We may keep a do-not-contact note or opt-out record so we keep honoring your choice.

Children

Our service is for business owners. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Keeping it safe

We use secure connections, keep sensitive details locked, and limit who can see them. No system is perfect, and we will tell you if something goes wrong that affects you.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we post the new version here with its date. Big changes are also sent to clients by email.
